Eindhoven is the winner in the overall category 'Place Brand of the Year', leaving behind, among others, Barcelona, Scotland, Helsingborg and Estonia as finalists. The jury elaborates: “Thanks to a widely supported and innovative approach, including an open-source brand strategy, Eindhoven has realised an extraordinary and effective marketing and branding.”

A total of 5 prestigious awards were given in the categories 'Best Use of Design', 'Best Citizen Engagement', 'Best Use of Social Media', 'Best Communication Strategy' and 'Place Brand of the Year' during the fourth edition of the City Nation Place Global Forum in London.

Peter Kentie, director Eindhoven365, is in London to receive the award: "We believe in Eindhoven, a city with a clear focus. The matching philosophy, on which the city marketing strategy is based, is: ‘who chooses, will be chosen’. This includes making strong choices in target groups in conjunction to activation from the inside out. We make it work, together: the municipality, the business community, the creatives as well as the residents. We have faith in creators, and a strong will to get the job done. We are proud of what we have achieved and we are delighted that a professional jury honors our Eindhoven policy and the distinguishing qualities our partners, our partnerships and Eindhoven365 in the awarding of this prestigious award."

Mark de Greeff, Strategy & Business Development Eindhoven365 is very content: "We have been working very consistently for more than 5 years with a clear and strategic focus. We intensively researched our target audiences and activated the Eindhoven brand with inspiring campaigns driven by content marketing. This is a major acknowledgment of our hard and persisting work.”

In April 2017, Eindhoven was named ‘Event city of the Year’. In March 2018, Eindhoven also won the coveted international Place Marketing Award in Strasbourg in the 'New ways to finance a territorial brand and attract talents' category. Furthermore, in 2017, 2015 and 2014, Eindhoven won the National City Marketing Trophy and in 2017 Eindhoven became a finalist in the 'Best Use of Social Media' category of the City Nation Place Awards.

2018 City Nation Place Awards
The 2018 City Nation Place Awards have received over 100 submissions of the most innovative, creative and effective marketing strategies from neighborhoods, towns, cities, regions, and nations worldwide. The submissions show that more and more places recognize the valuable relationship between quality of life, tourism, and economic development and pursue a joint strategic approach of governments and the private sector. The jury consists of international experts: Chris Brown (Liverpool Marketing Director, Liverpool Vision), Clare Dewhirst (Founder and Director, City Nation Place), Caio Esteves (CEO, Places for us), Colin Ferguson (President & CEO, Travel Manitoba), Chris Gottlieb (Marketing & Communications Consultant), Natasha Grand (Director, INSTID), Mary Harris (Managing Director, M&C Saatchi Export), and Guri Højgaard (Director of Tourism - CEO, Visit Faroe Islands).

Eindhoven is the winner in the overall category 'Place Brand of the Year'. The jury recognizes place branding teams who bring everything together effectively: a good strategy in the short and long-term with clear objectives, wherein the past year (March 2017 to July 2018) a project or strategic idea was implemented, an event was activated, whether a certain goal was achieved - or perhaps even demonstrated how strong a brand can offer resilience in a crisis. This category is supported by The New York Times.
